Vintage Get Well Soon Card

Hello everyone,

I made a card for a very special lady that had to have emergency surgery and we are all lucky she is well and alive now. I wanted to brighten her day with this card:

I used gesso on pretty much everything on this card...all the layers of distressed patterned paper are covered with light coat of gesso, doily and Tim Holtz clock cutout, the flowers which I made myself, by the way, are also covered with gesso and some crackle paint. The birdcage has a layer of gesso applied to it as well...The sentiment was created on my PC and printed onto a piece of vellum.

I am not sure how much you can really see the texture on the flowers, but here they are!

You can see how I attached the birdcage so that it gives extra dimension to the card...

One more side shot from the other side :)

I made a keepsake box for the card to protect it during the shipping and to complement the card design. I am shipping this card later on today and I truly hope that Lisa will enjoy it. :)

I am entering this card into following challenges:

  5. Absolutely DIVINE Samra! I could just melt right into this card and have a nap, it's so soft and romantic! I love that doily and your flowers are exquisite! The gesso really gives everything a lovely shabby feel and the way to made the birdcage look 3D is brilliant! May I ask about the clock? Tim Holtz you say? A stamp or something else?

PS, I've added babies breath to my ...must-have-as-soon-as-I-can-find-it... list! lol until next time, big hugs and smiles :)

    1. Hello my dear Pamellia :) Thank you for the extra rays of sunshine you always bring with you!!! Tim Holtz clock is cutout from his Lost and Found Paper Collection. It is a 12" x 12" cardstock sheet that had bunch of different clocks on it, so I just cut out one when I need it...About baby breath, I found it in Hobby Lobby in their floral section. I don't like to advertise any of the craft stores but it does seem that they have the best ribbon and embellishment assortment...

  10. Another beautiful card, Samra! I love your use of the gesso--it gives it such a soft look, and even on the background paper! Genius idea! Any your flowers are stunning! Can I ask what die you use for them? I have got to start learning how to make these amazing flowers! I hope your friend is recovering quickly! You are a good friend to make her such a lovely card!

    1. Hello Sara :) Thank you for all the praise :) Regarding the flowers, for the big flower in the center I used Spellbinders die that comes with several size die cuts that you just stuck up to get what you see on my card. For the roses I used 5 petal flower punch in 3 different sizes and made the roses. I learned how to make roses by watching couple youtube videos and just kept practicing till I finally got it right :) I is time consuming at first, it used to take me 15 minutes to make one flower, now I am down to only a few... :)
