Anything But Cute Challenge #5 Mixed Media Makeover

Hello everyone,

It is time for a brand new challenge at Anything But Cute and Nikki is our hostess this month. She would like to see an old project that did not quite turn out the way you hoped for and revamp it and make it better. For this challenge we'll need to see before and after picture, so that we know what you started off with...

I usually don't save any of my mistake projects, but I saved this one because I wanted to salvage the embroidered ribbon and pearl swirls...So here is my "What was I thinking???" project. (Never try to use as little ribbon as possible, if you want to make a nice dress for a card!)

And this is my make-over card:

I was able to remove the ribbon and everything else from the card without damaging the paper...I covered everything with very thick layer of gesso and while it was still wet I sprinkled some distress glitter...

I added many more layers of different ribbons and lace to create the dress and the shabby bow that was originally kinda on top of the card is now embellishing the wedding dress...

I added some liquid pearls and new sentiment...

I hope you'll join our challenge at Anything But Cute and have fun!

I hope you enjoyed this post...
Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by...

  2. Wow, Samra, you knocked this out of the ballpark, my friend! The background on your original card was so pretty, but you pumped it up about 100 notches by adding that gesso and glitter...I would have never guessed this is the same background! Simply amazing! And that dress is OH, SO MARVELOUS! You really should be a dress designer...I'd be proud to have my daughter wear this as her wedding dress! And your sentiment is just perfect! As for the Liquid Pearls, again...perfect! What a wonderful job you have done on this! Whomever is a recipient of one of your cards is truly blessed! Big hugs!

So awesome sauce to see that you have re-used almost all of your items from the original. I now know not to skimp on lace and fabric if I decide to do a dress. Such a stunning design and I bow down to your made scientist skills with bow making! Hugs to you muffin! ~Niki

  19. Yes, it's always a temptation to use a smaller amount of ribbon, especially if it is a precious one, but invariably it is not enough.
This is a marvellous old-to-new, to the luscious lacy full skirt of the bridal dress and I'm glad the "shabby bow" got its rightful place on this wonderful dress.
    It's a very stylish card.
