Anything But Cute Mixed Media Challenge 31 Days of Halloween

Hello everyone,

It is time for a new challenge over at Anything But Cute Mixed Media Challenge Blog and Sara Emily is our host this month with 31 Days of Halloween theme.

If you love Halloween like I do, it’s more than just one day out of the year, it’s a season! For this challenge I would like you to make a mixed media card or project for Halloween. It can be spooky or not, but you MUST include the number “31” somewhere in your project. We can’t wait to see the creative ways you’ll be incorporating this number in your mixed media piece!

Here is my elegant Gothic style Halloween card:

I took a few pictures of the process at the beginning and then got carried away and forgot to take pictures of the rest of the process :(

To create that black antique frame I cut out 8 frames out of a 110 lb heavy card stock using my Cricut machine and Happy Hauntings cartridge. I did the same with #31. I glued everything together to create this dimensional frame and my focal point "31".

I used liquid pearls to create this ornate look to the frame. Once that was dry I covered the frame with black paint, when that was dry I covered everything with Deco Art One Step Crackle and then with red paint.

This is what the background panel looked at the beginning of the process. I treated it with gesso, Deco Art One Step Crackle and various distress inks to get this warn out rustic look.

After I glued all the pieces to create #31 I painted it with red acrylic paint and then covered it with UTEE. The background is supposed to symbolize broken old mirror. The technique for this process can be found on Pamellia's blog.

And of course I had to add a fancy bow to my card...

I hope you will visit Anything But Cute and check out the rest of the projects that our DT created for this challenge and decide to join in on fun!

  1. Oh, MY WORD!!!! Samra, this has got to be my absolute favorite of yours! the frame is just amazing and looks as if it is wrought from iron! What a tremendous amount of work you went to create this, and that is what makes your art so special to me! the background panel appears to be an old worn piece of wood to me, and the texture and colors are just perfecto! Your mirror came out wonderfully, and great use of the # 31 for my challenge! Thank you so much for making this beauty, and all your hard work and love you put into it! Awesome bow, by the way! You rocked this! Big hugs!
