Anything But Cute Challenge #3 "Summer Romance"

Hello everyone,

It is already time for challenge #3 over at Anything But Cute and I am hosting it this month. Here is the mood board to inspire you along with all the creations from our team, including mine :)

I would like to see a project with a love theme, sea/beach theme or both, and it must be strongly inspired by the colors of this mood board.

Here is my project:

I'll show you some steps on how I made this decorative box:

I started off with this chocolate box...

Covered it with several layers of gesso...

Painted it with different shades of turquoise paint...and then I got carried away and did not take the rest of the step by step...

Gypsum starfish painted with white paint to match my mood board and cheesecloth...

Heart cutouts, sentiment and lots of real seashells...

Seahorse is a Cricut cutout hiding in a seashell and starfish arrangement...

I hope you enjoyed this way too long post...and that you will join our challenge at Anything But Cute. Please stop by to check out all the fabulous makes from my team mates as well :)

I would like to enter this project into following challenges:

Beyond Grey Challenges #70 Dimensional Project

Craft for the Craic July challenge Summer Time

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #14 Summer Days

Rhedd's Creative Spirit July Challenge

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Summer

Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by...

  1. Wow! Samra, this is just beautiful, and puts our lovely beaches to shame! I love the gorgeous blues you used on your background, how you applied them to look like flowing water, and those tiny bubbles! Great composition with your shells, die cuts, and those sweet, sweet starfish! Just a stunning transformation! Big hugs to you, my talented friend!

  2. Wow Samra, this is completely dreamy!! I can't believe this started out as a chocolate box!! I love the soft aquas and the little dew drops are so clever, they look like real bubbles! Such an amazing idea to paint the starfish, I wish I had thought of that! I really love how you have included those beautiful hearts amongst all the seashells, what a glorious way to bring the romance to your stunning box! An amazing transformation, you are a truly gifted artist! hugs :)

  4. This is a gorgeous transformation of a chocolate box. The colours are so soothing and the shells and cheesecloth make me feel like I am walking on the beach while the hearts and sentiment depict the romance part of the theme.

  9. I knew this was gorgeous but this is absolutely GORGEOUS! Never has an empty chocolate box enthralled me like this one (a full chocolate box always enthralles me. Lol)! What are the water drops made from? Clear glass? It is awesome sauce and so romantically beautiful. Words have left me dear Samra-cakes. Hugz to you muffin! ~Niki

  15. Oh boy oh boy oh boy, just open that lid and let me dive in! Of course, I'd be swimming for chocolates, but I must say, even if I didn't find any, the scenery would be divine! You really literally thought "outside" the box on this one and I love the water 'bubbles' sprinkled all about. It's hotter than hoo-ha here, so I'm vicariously taking in the sea breeze of your cool project. Nicely done my friend!!!

  20. This is such a beautiful creation! I love everything about it from the soft beachy color palette to the crisp white shells. I also thought it was brilliant of you to include some heart cut-out's for that romantic vibe. Kudos on how many layers of gesso that must've taken and I love to see simple acrylic paint used to make luxurious-looking creations. I also really liked the addition of the bling! This really is a stunning piece that will be treasured, I'm sure, and I'm so glad you shared it with us here at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog!
